The goal of this book is to explain the science of perception to nonspecialists. It is intended for visualization scientists, engineers, and GUI developers who need to display information effectively but have not been trained in the psychology of perception. The author isolates the “most essential” subjects and presents them clearly and concisely. The initial chapters of the book explain the basics of optics, color, and light, and the later chapters go into more detail about perception and information visualization. Many color and black-and-white figures from recent research in visualization demonstrate the concepts presented. This excellent book will help anyone who develops information analysis programs (including scientists, engineers, and educators) learn how to convey information effectively .
