“A project can be thought of as the allocation of resources directed toward a specific objective following a planned, organized approach.” Project management seeks to manage the allocation of those resources so that the objectives are successfully met. This fairly generic book on project management addresses the topic in five main sections. The first provides some background on project management and explains why projects are important and why project management will be even more important in the future than it has been in the past. The authors provide examples from Alexander the Great to Attila the Hun to bring out a few key points in a more interesting way than usual. The second section describes how to set up the project, from the initial project plan to the establishment of the project team. The third section addresses the next stage, tracking and monitoring the project. Section 4 discusses project management tools, including specific project management software, and the final section addresses project completion and how to learn from completed projects. The book's greatest strengths are its reada bility, its generic coverage of the material, and its completeness. It does not, however, provide sufficient argument that it is in any way unique to concerns of the 21st century.
