Abstract
Your local CompUSA is happy to sell you a 200-gigabyte ATA drive for $300, which comes to about $1,500 per terabyte. Go online and save even more - $1,281 for 1 terabyte of drive space (using, say, 7X Maxtor EIDE 153-GB ATA/113 5400-RPM drives). So why would anyone pay $360,000 to XYZ Storage System Corp. for a 16-terabyte system? I mean, what’s so hard about storage? Good question.

Optimization strategy of Hadoop small file storage for big data in healthcare
As the era of "big data" comes, the data processing platform like Hadoop was born at the right moment. But its carrier for storage, Hadoop distributed file system (HDFS) has the great weakness in storage of the numerous small files. The storage of ...
Bridging data-capacity gap in big data storage
AbstractBig data is aggressive in its production, and with the merger of Cloud computing and IoT, the huge volumes of data generated are increasingly challenging the storage capacity of data centres. This has led to a growing data-capacity gap ...

On efficient hierarchical storage for big data processing
CCGRID '16: Proceedings of the 16th IEEE/ACM International Symposium on Cluster, Cloud, and Grid ComputingA promising trend in storage management for big data frameworks, such as Hadoop and Spark, is the emergence of heterogeneous and hybrid storage systems that employ different types of storage devices, e.g. SSDs, RAMDisks, etc., alongside traditional ...
